The Trump administration approved $230 million in new security aid to Lebanon — $190 million for the Lebanese Army and $40 million for the Internal Security Forces — even though Hezbollah has not been disarmed as required by US policy.
Officials said the aid aims to help Lebanon’s government “implement the mission of disarming Hezbollah,” but critics note the funding was released before any real progress was made.
For the Lebanese Army, the package equals an entire year’s budget — more than it received in both 2021 and 2022 combined.
Washington argues the assistance will strengthen Lebanon’s institutions, but many in Israel and the region see it as indirectly propping up Hezbollah’s influence.
