German auto giant Volkswagen is in advanced talks with Israeli defense company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems to convert one of its major factories from car production to missile defense manufacturing for the famous Iron Dome.

The discussions are centered around Volkswagen’s Osnabrück plant in western Germany, a facility employing roughly 2,300 workers that faces an uncertain future as traditional vehicle production winds down in the coming years.
