Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) suffered a crushing defeat in the House of Representatives after introducing a shocking resolution to label Israel an “enemy of the United States,” grouping the Jewish state with hostile regimes like China, North Korea, and Iran.
The vote wasn’t even close: 410-3, a rare show of bipartisan unity to condemn what lawmakers on both sides saw as an outrageous and deeply offensive move.
Tlaib’s proposal, which would have treated America’s closest ally in the Middle East as a sworn enemy, drew fierce backlash. Republican and Democrat members alike slammed the resolution as anti-American, antisemitic, and a disgrace to the institution.
This is not the first time Tlaib has used her platform in Congress to push anti-Israel rhetoric, but this attempt — equating the Jewish state with totalitarian dictatorships and terror sponsors — may be her most radical yet. Even among the far-left, few were willing to stand with her.
The vote outcome — 3 in favor, 410 against — sent a clear message: Israel is not only a valued ally of the United States, it is not up for debate. And Tlaib’s efforts to demonize it have no place in serious American policymaking.
