WATCH The Hulda Gates: The forgotten entrance to the Temple
Most visitors know the Western Wall, but the Southern Wall in Jerusalem reveals the deeper story.
The outlines of the Hulda Gates, the mikva’ot, and the broad Southern Steps show how Jewish pilgrims actually entered the Temple 2,000 years ago.
Jewish people, immersed in ritual baths, climbed these steps and walked through vaulted passageways into the holiest place in Judaism.
When the Romans destroyed the Temple in 70 CE, Jews were barred from this area for centuries, yet the connection to Jerusalem never faded. After nearly 2,000 years, Jews stood here again in 1967.
These stones are not ruins. They are evidence of Jewish continuity in the heart of Jerusalem.
