Iran is rebuilding a key military complex destroyed in 2024, a move that experts say shows its determination to restore lost power and pursue its long-term nuclear ambitions.
Former Israeli national security adviser Jacob Nagel told JNS that Tehran’s leadership, led by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has no plans to abandon its old path.
Instead, it is following a “carefully sequenced recovery plan” after Israel’s devastating June 2025 strikes that set back Iran’s nuclear program by years.
According to Nagel, Iran’s recovery begins with air defense systems, followed by missile production, and only later nuclear capabilities. The reconstruction of the Taleghan 2 facility at the Parchin complex—long linked to nuclear weaponization—is being done “under a veil of secrecy,” he said, as Iran continues to deny that the site was ever used for nuclear purposes.
