Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, the president of Egypt earlier this month once again refused an American proposal that his regime take responsibility for running the Gaza Strip for six months.
Retired Egyptian General Samir Ferag, who is close to the regime and serves as a military commentator in the media, claims that the Americans asked Egypt to manage the Strip until elections are held there and a technocratic government is established to operate under the Palestinian Authority.
According to Pereg, the American offer was presented to Sisi by the head of the CIA, William Burns, during his last visit to Cairo, earlier this month.
According to reports, this is the second time that the Egyptian leader refuses to take responsibility, even temporarily, for the Strip since the war began on October 7.
The Wall Street Journal reported in November that al-Sisi had already rejected a similar offer.
