Despite Israel’s willingness to compromise, Hamas continues to obstruct progress
Before soldiers from the 969th Battalion accompanied our group of three reporters through the Erez Crossing and into the Gaza Strip on Thursday, massive explosions could be seen and heard just over the border fence. Large plumes of layered smoke could be seen from the base where the soldiers picked us up in their armored vehicles.
If Hamas continues to refuse to release the hostages it still holds, Israel will likely have no choice but to take direct military action, according to U.S. Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs Adam Boehler.
Speaking Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union, Boehler emphasized the urgency and seriousness of the situation.
