The American energy giant Chevron and the Cypriot Ministry of Energy yesterday reaffirmed their commitment to the development of the Aphrodite gas field located in the economic waters of Cyprus. As you know, Turkish President Erdogan claims part of the ownership of this field.
Clay Neff, Chevron's Middle East president updated Energy Secretary Natasha Filides on the planned schedule. The project includes the drilling of a new well already in the coming months in a field located not far from the Israeli Leviathan field.
The plan is that the gas produced will be transported by pipeline to Egypt, will be liquefied and from there to the market on the European continent. It should be noted that the Israeli company Newmed, formerly Delek Drilling, owns 30% of the field.
The Aphrodite field was first discovered in 2011 and according to initial estimates contains about 4.4 trillion cubic feet of gas.
