An infantry unit advancing through the battlefield leaves behind a lot of heavy equipment, in addition to the equipment carried by the soldiers themselves. Michal Wermuth, Director of Business Development at Rafael, discussed the challenges of developing drones that would bring logistical supplies to the field during her talk at UVID DRONETECH 2022 on Wednesday.
Autonomous delivery creates complex challenges, such as what to deliver first (for example, food or units of blood); how to deal with an enemy which is threatening a logistical convoy; and how to connect to a system that would destroy the enemy.
The solution is cooperation. As Rafael does not manufacture full platforms, the challenge is to cooperate and integrate with software and platforms manufactured by other companies.
Aeronautics deals with energy sources for drones/UASs – fuel and electricity, or a combination of both.
