Iran hints through proxy: Syria's Security is a national interest and it won't back down. Iran appears unwilling to accept the collapse of its most significant and powerful proxy arm in the Middle East.
Following the retreat of its forces from Syria amidst the collapse of the military and the advance of extremist Sunni rebel forces, Iran watched helplessly as its investments of tens of billions of dollars dissipated, and the status of its proxy forces teetered on the brink of extinction. Consequently, it has resolved to continue fighting for its position in Syria.
As is its custom, Iran is waging this struggle through its proxies, particularly the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Iraq, which operate under the umbrella organization "Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi."
The voice is that of the Iraqi leader, but the hands are undoubtedly those of Iran.
