A former Michigan Army National Guard member was arrested after the FBI disrupted an attempted mass shooting at a US military base.
FBI Director Kash Patel delivered a stern warning following the disruption of an ISIS-inspired mass shooting plot targeting a U.S. military base. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Patel vowed that anyone conspiring with foreign terrorist organizations or targeting the U.S. military would face the full force of the law.
The warning follows the arrest of Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, a 19-year-old former Michigan Army National Guard member, who allegedly planned a mass shooting at the U.S. Army’s Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM) center at the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, Michigan. Said faces charges of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and distributing information related to a destructive device, with each count carrying a potential 20-year sentence.
According to the Justice Department, Said began communicating with an undercover FBI agent, whom he believed to be an ISIS supporter, around June 2024. He allegedly provided armor-piercing ammunition, magazines, and drone reconnaissance over TACOM, while also training undercover officers in firearms and Molotov cocktail construction. Said advised having "seven magazines" to avoid running out of ammunition during the attack and planned details such as entry points and target buildings.
Patel praised the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and law enforcement partners for their swift action in thwarting the plot. "Our agents, intelligence teams, and partners acted quickly — and they saved lives," Patel posted on X, commending the operation.
Said, who enlisted in the Michigan Army National Guard in September 2022 and was discharged in December 2024, is now under investigation by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. Patel reiterated, "Anyone who targets our military or conspires with foreign terrorist organizations will be found, stopped, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
