A former UK police officer says he was suspended and pushed out after asking questions about Islam during workplace DEI training.
Former North Yorkshire Police community support officer Luke Salmons has reached a confidential settlement after claiming he was discriminated against for his Christian beliefs.
Salmons said the force held DEI training sessions on race, religion and culture, which were presented as a safe space for officers to ask difficult questions. During one session, he questioned instructors about Islam, Gaza, Hamas atrocities and the meaning of jihad.
According to Salmons, the exchange was respectful, but two days later he was suspended. He later resigned during a lengthy investigation, and a disciplinary panel initially ruled that his behavior amounted to gross misconduct, placing him on a barred list that prevented him from working in policing.
