The Green Police of the Ministry of Environmental Protection conducted an enforcement activity this week at a pirate compound for storing fuels and hazardous materials in the Bedouin village Rahat, located near the border with Gaza.
The activity was carried out under the auspices of the Southern District of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Civil Prosecution of the Southern District, officers from the Environmental Protection Section of the Israel Police, the Fuel Administration of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the Tax Authority, the Fire Department, a representative of the Land Enforcement Authority and the Environmental Services Company.
The joint forces entered the compound through a search warrant, and found tanks of various types and sizes in which, according to the suspicion, fuel and dangerous substances were held illegally. An improvised liquid management laboratory was discovered at the site and a suspicion arose of creating alternative fuel and selling it. Documents were also seized and samples were taken from the containers and the ground. Two suspects were detained and questioned at the Rahat police station. The green police at the Ministry of Environmental Protection have opened a criminal investigation.
Guy Nehushtan, manager of the southern team of the Green Police at the Ministry of Environmental Protection: “The Green Police at the Ministry of Environmental Protection will continue to carry out enforcement activities to prevent environmental danger and ensure the security of public health and the environment in times of emergency and routine.”
