A 29-year-old foreigner, said to be an employee of the Turkish Embassy in Israel, was arrested on Friday afternoon on suspicion of secretly photographing underage girls, some as young as 13, in changing rooms at a Tel Aviv beach.
Police responded immediately after receiving emergency calls reporting that a man had entered the women’s changing facilities at Frishman Beach and was using his mobile phone to film minors both in swimwear and while undressed. The girls noticed the phone being held above their changing stalls and alerted authorities.
Police officers and coastal patrol units quickly arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect near the beach. According to police statements, the suspect does not deny the charges but has provided his own version of events that he believes explains his actions. However, authorities maintain there is reasonable suspicion linking him to the alleged crimes.
The case was brought before Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court over the weekend, where Judge Yuval Gazit ordered the suspect’s detention to be extended until Monday. The judge cited “reasonable suspicion linking the suspect to the acts attributed to him” in the ruling.
