The fall of Bashar Assad’s regime dominated Israeli headlines, calling the collapse an “earthquake” on Sunday morning while images of celebrating Syrians, gunmen raising their rifles, and statues being toppled filled the papers.
“The fall of the Assad regime is a historic earthquake in the Middle East,” wrote Israel’s popular Walla! news site.
“Earthquake: Assad fled Syria,” topped the website of Maariv as the rebels announced the collapse of the government. A second headline said, “Revolutionary Guards admit defeat: ‘The fall of Iran’s Berlin Wall.'”
“The rebels entered Damascus and declared: ‘We have overthrown the regime.'” and “Report: ‘Assad fled, his plane disappeared from the radar'” topped the Ynet News website.
