At a meeting hosted by the Workers World Party with a US delegation returning from Venezuela, Ché Marino, a representative of the Bronx Anti-War Coalition, argued that opposition to what he described as “imperialism” must be led by activists inside the United States rather than left to countries in the Global South.
Marino said that “anti-imperialism cannot be outsourced solely to the Global South,” insisting that the responsibility lies with those living inside what he called the “imperial core” to oppose US sanctions and to “resist our own government’s war project.” He claimed that if Venezuela were to fall, it would be due to a failure by people inside the United States to resist their own country’s policies.
Another speaker at the event, identified as “EB,” went further, stating that if any regime should be overthrown, it was the administration of Donald Trump and what he described as the “monopolist capitalist class.” EB also led chants of support for Venezuela and its current and former leaders, including “Viva Venezuela,” “Viva Chávez,” and “Viva Maduro,” referring to Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro.
Marino has publicly identified himself as a public-school teacher in the Bronx. The Bronx Anti-War Coalition has previously organized events in support of Hamas, Iran, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, as well as their leaders. The group has also publicly praised Elias Rodriguez, the perpetrator of the May 2025 shooting at the Capital Jewish Museum, in which two Israeli Embassy staff members were murdered, and has called for similar attacks.
