Recently, several media channels in Iraq put forward a theory regarding Maher Assad, the brother of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
According to them, Maher has recently been subjected to repeated assassination attempts by several factors.
In a study carried out by the German "Der Spiegel" it appears that Maher Assad is acting on behalf of his brother the president to produce drugs of the type "pantyline" (known in Israel as drugs called Captagon or Piton).
According to Hadar Spiegel, Maher Assad managed to sell pentyline for an astronomical amount of 5.7 billion dollars a year, thus becoming one of the most important export areas in Syria in general and for the Assad regime in particular.
The problem is that many attempts and negotiations were made to add Syria to the Arab League, but one important condition prevented the agreement; Stopping the production of pantyline which Assad and Maher refuse to accept.
Because of this, experts in the Iraqi media explain that Israel is also involved in the assassination attempts of Maher Assad, in order to weaken this economic establishment that helps and comes hand in hand with Iran and Hezbollah.
In the publications, they point to a direct connection of a number of specific attacks to his assassination attempts, as well as recently, in one of Israel's attacks on the suburbs of Damascus last Sunday, after shooting at Israel, an IDF attacked, according to them, the headquarters of the 4th division, which is under the direct command of Maher. In that attack, Iranian commanders were present and possibly even Maher himself.
