When Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz in early March, it did so fast and dirty. Small Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) boats, operating without a clear chain of command, scattered naval mines across one of the world's most critical shipping lanes. No unified record was kept of where each mine was placed. Some drifted from their original positions with the current.
