Jason Greenblatt, former Middle East envoy for US President Donald Trump and senior researcher at the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs, says Iran fundamentally misjudged Washington’s determination.
In a special interview, Greenblatt explained that Tehran believed Trump would avoid direct military confrontation in pursuit of diplomatic achievements, but events proved otherwise.
“I don’t think they understood how deeply committed he is to this issue,” he said, adding that the current campaign has forced Iran—and the region—to recognize US intentions.
According to Greenblatt, Iran’s decision to target US allies in the Gulf was a major strategic error. Instead of weakening regional ties, it strengthened cooperation with Israel and accelerated a shift in Arab thinking.
