Kast secured a decisive win in Chile’s presidential runoff, defeating leftist candidate Jeannette Jara by a wide margin as voters delivered a clear shift in the country’s political direction.
José Antonio Kast, the Republican Party’s right-wing candidate, won Chile’s presidential runoff election with around 58% of the vote, compared to 42% for his leftist rival Jeannette Jara, according to results based on more than 95–99% of ballots counted. The outcome marked a significant political turn in Chile, following years of left-leaning governance and social unrest.
Jara conceded defeat shortly after polls closed, congratulating Kast on his victory and acknowledging the result. “Democracy spoke loud and clear,” she said, signaling a peaceful transition of power after a closely watched and polarized campaign.
