Illegal immigration to Germany has dropped by 40% and the rate of deportations of refugees from the country has increased significantly.
A parliamentary inquiry in Germany has revealed a significant decrease in unauthorized entries into Germany since the introduction of border controls, according to an exclusive report published by the “rbb24 Recherche” platform. The data showed that the Federal Interior Ministry recorded a decrease from 103,526 cases in 2023 to 62,493 cases in 2024 between January and November.
The controls imposed since September 2024 have shown a clear impact on reducing illegal immigration, as cases of entry refusals increased from 29,000 cases in 2023 to 34,000 cases in the same period in 2024. Most of the unauthorized entry cases were recorded at the border with Poland, while the cases of refusals were high at the borders with France and the Netherlands due to the “recent start of checks”.
REFUGEE DEPORTATION RATES FROM GERMANY RECORD SIGNIFICANT INCREASE
On the same topic, in 2024 there was a 21% increase in the rate of refugee deportations, with 18,384 people deported compared to 16,430 people in 2023, according to statements from the German Interior Ministry to “The Capital Studio”. Interior Minister Nancy Weisser confirmed that these measures had contributed to a 35% reduction in asylum applications compared to 2023, describing the results as “real progress”.
While the Christian Democratic Union believes that the figures prove the effectiveness of border controls, the Green Party opposes the continuation of these controls permanently, considering that their impact is limited and stressing the importance of mobile controls to combat cross-border crime more effectively.
While Interior Minister Nancy Weisser confirmed that she would work to extend border controls beyond March 2025, she noted that illegal immigration needed to be curbed until the protection of the EU’s external borders was strengthened under the Common European Asylum System.
