Israel expands ground operations in southern Lebanon, moves to create security zone
Israel is expanding its operational activity along the northern border and is working to establish a security buffer inside southern Lebanon, while applying sustained military pressure aimed at weakening Hezbollah’s grip on the country.
The IDF Spokesperson announced that forces from Division 36 have recently begun targeted ground operations toward an additional objective in southern Lebanon, alongside Division 91. Prior to the ground maneuver, the IDF launched a wave of airstrikes and artillery fire.
Officially, Israel presents the limited ground campaign up to the Litani River as a defensive move to remove threats and protect northern communities. Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir have both emphasized this objective.
