Germany’s Die Welt newspaper reported that a 39-year-old man identified as a Hamas operative was arrested in London at the request of German authorities — and he is the son of senior Hamas member Bassem Naim.
According to the report, the suspect, named only as “Mohammed A.,” is accused of collecting weapons and planning attacks against Jewish and Israeli targets in Europe.
Germany’s federal prosecutor said that last summer, the suspect received five handguns and a large quantity of ammunition in Berlin, which he then transferred to Vienna, where they were intended for terrorist attacks.
Security sources said the suspect was initially detained in London in early October but was released because that arrest was unrelated to the current investigation.
