WASHINGTON, US (North Press) – The Coalition stands with our SDF (Kurdish units) partners who have fought with bravery and determination in Hasakah, said Maj. Gen. John W. Brennan, Jr., commander of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS said on Wednesday.  

In a statement released today in the aftermath of the announcement of SDF control of al-Sina’a prison in Hasakah city, Brennan added that the Coalition stands with the partners [SDF] “who have fought with bravery and determination in Hasakah.”

Earlier today, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) held a press conference in Hasakah city in which it announced the complete control over al-Sina’a prison following clashes between the SDF and ISIS members that ended with the ISIS members to surrender.

He stressed that the what happened in Hasakah was not a problem solely within this city. “This is a global problem that requires many nations to come together to develop an enduring long-term solution.”  

“The makeshift prisons throughout Syria are a breeding ground for Daesh’s  failed ideology. We must thoroughly investigate the circumstances that allowed this attack to happen.”

Brennan pointed out that there is still much work to be done in Hasakah, saying “we remain committed to advising, assisting, and enabling our partners in Iraq and North East Syria.”

“Daesh remains an existential threat to the region, and it must not be allowed to regenerate,” he concluded.

On January 20, ISIS sleeper cells carried a series of  attacks on al-Sina’a prison, where thousands of ISIS members are detained, to break their ISIS inmates fellows out of the prison.
