Military sources warn Iran is accelerating the development of chemical and biological warheads for long-range ballistic missiles as a deterrent against Israel and the US.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is developing chemical and biological warheads for long-range ballistic missiles, informed military sources told Iran International. According to the sources, the effort is being led by the IRGC’s Aerospace Force, alongside the transfer of missile launchers to eastern regions of Iran.
The sources, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, said the pace of these activities has accelerated in recent months amid rising regional tensions and Tehran’s growing concern over the possibility of another direct confrontation with Israel and the United States.
They added that the programs include optimizing ballistic missiles to carry chemical and biological agents and upgrading associated command-and-control systems, as part of what Iranian decision-makers view as a “complementary deterrent” to Iran’s conventional missile arsenal.
