Lebanese federalism activist Joe Majali has called on Lebanon’s Shiite community to rebel against Hezbollah, warning that continued support for the Iranian-backed terrorist organization could endanger their future in the country.
Majali, general coordinator of the Permanent Conference for Federalism, said in a June 1 interview that Lebanon is collapsing because its leaders are corrupt and focused on stealing rather than governing. He described the country as lawless and compared it to a jungle or a “garbage dump” rather than a functioning state.
He argued that Beirut must be cleaned up and that critics should stop blaming Israel for striking Hezbollah weapons depots inside the Lebanese capital.
“What would you do if you were in Israel’s place?” Majali asked, saying that any country would attack rockets and weapons stored in the heart of a major city and positioned for use against its population.
