India has declared a complete boycott of Turkey due to the latter's support for Pakistan in the latest round of fighting.
Turkey, which declared a trade boycott on Israel, is now itself facing a boycott from India. It is unclear how long this boycott will last, but if it is enforced, that is the potential damage to the Turkish economy.
Total Turkish exports to India last year were about $2.85 billion. Although this is about 1% of all Turkish exports, in certain sectors the damage is significant. For example, the annual value of Turkish marble exports to India is about $360 million, with India being the largest target market for marble from Turkey.
Stopping exports to India will lead to severe damage to marble producers in Turkey. The same applies to agriculture, which mainly includes apples. The value of Turkey's agricultural exports to India is estimated at about $150 million per year.
