Lebanese lawyer and political activist Majd Harb sharply criticized Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qasem during a January 21, 2026 appearance on the Spot Shot YouTube channel, warning that Lebanon cannot recover or be rebuilt as long as Hezbollah maintains its independent arsenal.
Harb said Qasem’s refusal to surrender Hezbollah’s weapons mirrors the rhetoric once used by Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin, arguing that history shows where such absolutist positions lead. When asked directly whether he was comparing Qasem to Hitler, Harb responded that Qasem might be “a little bit worse,” stressing that the comparison was about responsibility and accountability, not ideology.
According to Harb, Lebanon faces the real risk of civil war if Hezbollah continues to operate as a non-state military force. He emphasized that no country can function, let alone rebuild, while an armed organization exists outside state authority. Harb argued that accountability for Qasem and Hezbollah must ultimately come from within the Shiite community itself, just as Germans eventually held Hitler responsible after World War II.
Harb concluded by expressing hope that the Lebanese Army will fulfill its role as a national institution, prevent internal conflict, and stop Lebanese citizens from being driven into confrontation with one another.
