Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that any Israeli strike in Lebanon would be considered a violation of the emerging agreement between Tehran and Washington.
The statement appears designed to pressure President Donald Trump into restraining Israel and to make continued Israeli operations against Hezbollah the pretext for Iran to undermine or abandon the agreement.
Tehran is already attempting to expand the deal beyond Iran itself and turn it into a shield for Hezbollah. If that position is accepted, the terrorist organization could quickly force Israel into the familiar formula of “quiet in exchange for quiet” while rebuilding its forces, restoring weapons stockpiles and reestablishing positions near the border.
The next stage would almost certainly be mounting international pressure for a full Israeli withdrawal from strategic positions in Lebanon, regardless of whether Hezbollah has genuinely disarmed.
