A man identified as Suleymane has become the first person convicted in a widening child sexual abuse scandal that has shaken Paris.

The 25-year-old was found guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl at an after-school club when she was between three and five years old. He received an 18-month suspended prison sentence.

The case comes as the Paris prosecutor’s office investigates an expanding series of allegations involving children in schools, nurseries and after-school facilities.
