Germany is moving ahead with a major defense purchase from Israel, despite growing international criticism of Israel’s military operations in Gaza.
According to reports, Berlin is planning to buy three Heron drones from Israel in a deal valued at $1.1 billion.
The procurement is part of a broader package of 80 defense acquisitions expected to be approved by the Bundestag before the end of 2025, which also includes 20 Eurofighter jets and tanks.
A German defense ministry spokesman declined to confirm or deny the reports, but the move underscores Berlin’s continued military cooperation with Israel. The decision comes at a sensitive moment, as Germany balances its strategic defense needs with mounting political pressure over Israel’s actions in Gaza.
