After nearly three years of war, a group of teenagers living in Israel is asking for the right to enlist in the IDF: the children of foreign workers.
An estimated 3,000 children of foreign workers currently live in Israel, were born in the country and have now reached military age.
Many of them grew up in Israeli schools, speak Hebrew as their first language and see Israel as their only home. Now they want the opportunity to share the burden carried by other young Israelis and contribute to the defense of the country in which they were raised.
Their appeal raises a broader question about belonging and responsibility. These young people are asking not only for legal status, but also for the chance to prove their commitment through military service.
