A fierce internal dispute reportedly erupted inside the Trump administration over the emerging agreement with Iran, pitting senior officials against one another behind closed doors.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth were said to have strongly opposed trusting Tehran, warning that Iran could use the agreement to regroup, rebuild its military capabilities and evade its commitments.
On the other side stood officials pushing to end the confrontation, led by Vice President JD Vance. According to the report, Vance argued in favor of halting the fighting and advancing the agreement—and his position ultimately prevailed.
The dispute highlights the deep divisions inside the administration over whether Iran can be contained through negotiations or must remain under sustained military and economic pressure.
