The Swedish Military Procurement Directorate (FMV) recently signed a €2 billion agreement with the German-French company KNDS to acquire 44 advanced Leopard 2 A8 main battle tanks. These tanks are equipped with Rafael’s Israeli-made "Trophy" active protection system. The deal also includes upgrading 66 older Leopard 2 tanks.

This purchase continues the commercial success of the Leopard 2 A8 tanks and the "Trophy" system among European countries. In recent months, reports indicate that Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Croatia, and potentially the Czech Republic are acquiring hundreds of these tanks. This success is largely attributed to the tanks' advanced systems, with the "Trophy" system offering effective countermeasures against modern anti-tank threats.

Sweden's decision to acquire the Leopard 2 A8 tanks aligns with its strategic goal of renewing and upgrading its ground forces. The purchase also addresses current challenges, including conflicts marked by asymmetric threats and the growing use of advanced technologies.
