Israeli Vidisco to supply USAF with digital X-ray systems

Contract worth is $30 million. More than 50 Guardian 12 Portable Explosive Detection Units are already in use at various Air Force bases

Vidisco, an Israeli developer of portable digital X-ray inspection systems, announced that it has been awarded a $30 million contract by the US Air Force to supply its GUARDIAN 12 digital X-ray system for explosive detection applications, the company announced on 6 October. Over 50 of the systems have already been installed and are in use at various Air Force bases.

According the company, GUARDIAN 12 enhances EOD capabilities by making it easier to view the internal contents of suspicious packages, IEDs and unexploded ordnances (UXO). It increases force protection by capturing high-quality, concise images in seconds, reducing the time spent in close proximity to hazardous devices.

Weighing less than 7kg and housed in a compact carrying case for maximum portability, the system has been specifically adapted to USAF needs. With its rapid, easy deployment, it is also designed to work in extreme temperatures, weather conditions, and harsh environments.

The system also offers operational flexibility: its ability to work in both low and high frequency ranges, it is suitable for global deployment. It features a long, stable wireless range, able to penetrate doors and walls in enclosed spaces.
