A senior political source in Hamas told the newspaper Rai al-Youm that the group is under intense pressure from Arab countries and international actors ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to the region. These pressures aim not at reaching a ceasefire, but at forcing Hamas into surrender.
According to the report, the Trump administration is actively working to shift the positions of Turkey and Qatar—two of Hamas' key backers—urging them to reduce their support for the organization.
The report also mentions a shift in Egypt’s position. Egypt is reportedly becoming more open to American proposals that call for the expulsion of Hamas from the Gaza Strip. The source claims that Cairo has begun pressuring Hamas to dismantle its military wing—reversing a previous agreement in which Hamas would relinquish only civilian control of Gaza without disarming.
Hamas officials say Egypt’s policy change results from heavy pressure by the Trump administration. They add that Qatar is also being targeted by U.S. pressure, including rhetoric reminiscent of the Israeli far-right, with statements echoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli media.
