A former president of the Muslim American Society praised the leaders in Gaza who were recently “sacrificed,” saying their jihad had “awakened the Islamic nation.”
In a sermon at the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Virginia, Esam Omeish praised the jihad and actions of leaders who had recently been eliminated in Gaza, specifically mentioning Hamas leaders Izz Al-Din Al-Haddad and Mohammed Odeh. Omeish said their actions were “better than what we are doing today,” adding that Muslims must honor their “dignity and sacrifices.”
Omeish also said their sacrifices (10/7) had “awakened the Islamic nation.” He then turned to the United States, saying that while America has “a lot of good things,” the best thing Muslims can do for America is to guide it with Islam.
Omeish is a board member of the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center. In 2007, he resigned from a Virginia state commission after a video emerged in which he said that pro-Palestinians should “pursue the way of jihad” in opposing Israel.
