US forces have boarded the M/T Tifani, a tanker described by the Pentagon as a stateless, sanctioned vessel tied to Iranian smuggling activity.
According to the US announcement on April 21, the interdiction and boarding were carried out without incident in the US Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility, signaling that Washington is continuing to enforce pressure on Iran’s maritime networks far beyond the Persian Gulf.
While the Pentagon statement referred broadly to the INDOPACOM area, reporting indicates the vessel was located in the Indian Ocean, between South and Southeast Asia.
This underscores that the operation did not take place near Iran itself, but as part of a much wider US enforcement effort targeting illicit oil transport networks connected to Tehran.
