A debate that took place in a committee in the American Congress discussed the question of whether the Chinese regime is trying to exploit the current war in the Middle East for its own interests?
John Alterman, director of the Middle East program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in the US, says that China does not want to settle the conflicts in the Middle East but to exploit it to its advantage.
According to him, China's goal is to create a Middle East where the US will not have stable long-term partnerships and that Beijing's proposals to establish infrastructure projects throughout the Middle-East are intended to serve these interests.
The severe damage to the Muslim Uyghur minority in China is known to be completely ignored by many Muslim countries in the Middle East that do business with China.
"The Chinese government has set very specific requirements regarding how the Uighur issue should be discussed and the Arab governments are responding to it," says Alterman.
