For the ninth day in a row, thousands of Syrians went out in the Sawida area in southern Syria to protest against the Assad regime due to the economic distress. The protestors belong to the absolute majority of the Druze community, which until now was loyal to the Assad regime and did not join the intifada against him in 2011.
Yesterday there was an interesting development when the protesters started calling for the elimination of Assad's closest ally, Iran. The demonstrators called for the cancellation of agreements signed with Iran in recent years and handed over seaports and aviation in the country.
The regime that is in trouble and prefers to avoid violent repression is trying to reduce damages. Rafik Lotef, a journalist close to the regime claims that every protester who goes out to the street receives about 20 dollars. He also added that the main news website in Sweida that reports on the protest is operated from Israel and the Netherlands.
