America has many partners. But when the test comes, Israel stands almost alone as America’s only true ally in the world.
This is not because other countries do not speak warmly about the United States. Many do. European leaders give speeches about shared values, democracy, freedom and the Western alliance. But when America asks for action, they all vanished behind committees, legal excuses and diplomatic language.
The Strait of Hormuz was a perfect example. America needed help keeping one of the world’s most important waterways open against Iranian threats. This was not only an American interest. It was a global interest. Europe depends on free trade, open seas and stable energy routes. Yet when it came time to stand with Washington, many European states treated the crisis as if it was not “their war.”
In practice, they left America to carry the burden.
