Greece has forcibly returned more than 17,000 "asylum seekers" to Turkey

The UN Special Rapporteur on Immigrant Rights, Felipe Gonzalez Morales, has revealed that Greece has forcibly repatriated more than 17,000 migrants (asylum seekers) to Turkey, during the years 2020-2021.

These asylum seekers tried to reach Greece by sea, according to a report entitled "Return Procedures" published on the website of the European Council for Refugees and Exiles "ECRE", on Tuesday.

Since June 2021, Greece has rejected more than 6,400 asylum applications, forcibly returning more than 17,000 asylum seekers and migrants from its territorial waters to Turkey, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, on which the report was based.
