The Qatari Ministry of Interior announced last night the exposure of a crime network involved in smuggling and illegal trade of firearms within the country – an event described as "unprecedented" and rare in Qatar's internal security arena.
According to the official report, in a targeted operation by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations, five suspects were arrested, including two Qatari citizens, following surveillance and the collection of "accurate" intelligence. Various types of firearms were found during a search, confiscated, and transferred for legal proceedings.
Despite the severity of the case, pro-Qatar media hastened to write that this incident will not affect Qatar's status as one of the safest countries in the world.
The event was published alongside the release of the 2025 Global Peace Index by the Institute for Economics and Peace, in which Qatar was ranked first in the Arab world and the Middle East, and 27th out of 163 countries – marking the 13th consecutive year it leads the region in terms of security and stability.
