Once one of the world’s most hostile regions toward Israel, South America is undergoing a remarkable political transformation, moving from cooperation with Iran and hosting Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists toward an increasingly pro-Israel alignment.
After years in which radical governments across Latin America maintained close ties with Iran, Russia and China—and permitted Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists to operate on their soil—the continent’s political map is changing rapidly in Israel’s favor.
Foreign-policy expert Dr. Emmanuel Navon, a lecturer at Tel Aviv University, explained that changes of government in Latin America are often dramatic rather than moderate.
“In recent years, political transitions in Latin America have moved from one extreme to another,” Navon said. “They are generally not shifts from the center-left to the center-right, but from the hard left to the hard right.”
