Syrian sources report that US forces blew up military bases they had vacated in the al-Hasakah province, as part of their withdrawal from the region.
The Syrian government welcomed the move, stating that American forces are expected to fully leave the country soon — for the first time since their deployment in 2014 to fight ISIS.
According to the reports, Syrian leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani described the withdrawal as a necessary step toward restoring freedom and prosperity for Syrian citizens.
The destruction of equipment and infrastructure appears to reflect lessons learned from the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, where large quantities of military assets were left behind and later seized by the Taliban.
