Epoch magazine, a widely respected publication in Hebrew conducted this interview last month, before Iran attacked Israel on April 13.
The Israeli Mossad has proven in recent years that its long hand can reach the heart of Iran, when it carried out a series of alarming operations - starting with the theft of the Iranian nuclear archive and its transfer to Israel, through the elimination of nuclear scientists and senior officers in the "Revolutionary Guards" to the elimination of the father of the Iranian nuclear bomb, Mohsen Fakhri Zada.
Q: One of the unsolved questions for the average Israeli is what is the story with Nasrallah - does the Mossad know where he is? And if so, why doesn't Israel eliminate him?
"In order to have the ability to eliminate him, there must first be a will to do it. In addition, in the gap between the will and the ability there is what is called motivation. Israel does not think that this is the time to do it. Why? Because it is part of the peacekeeping policy, and part of the overall mutual deterrence policy Nasrallah is in it.
"Israel looks at Nasrallah and says to itself: If my policy is to go and completely dismantle Hezbollah, we will do it - we will eliminate Nasrallah, this will be an opening move that will immediately lead to an all-out war against Hezbollah. This is the meaning of his elimination. After the elimination of Nasrallah, we will experience a very massive attack from Lebanon , both ground and air, and will be joined by attacks from other areas - from Iraq, Yemen and possibly from Iran.
"On the other hand, if Israel wants to keep the peace in the north, as it did before October 7, to see the strengthening of Hezbollah and not react to it, and in fact to wait for 'Judgment Day', to prepare for it and yet hope that it will not come, or alternatively - if it wants now, after October 7, to avoid an all-out war with Hezbollah or to arrive more prepared for it - so Nasrallah should remain an active player in the game for the time being."
Q: That is, if Israel wants to, it knows where he is and can eliminate him.
"I'll tell you this - if we decide to eliminate him, we can do it. When the Mossad decides to do something, it can do anything. I don't think there are limits to power, meaning the ability to eliminate him is not the question. I come from an organization that knows how to reach anywhere. Anywhere!
"Look, it was said in the past that Salah al-Aaruri is immune because he is sitting in the rejection, in Hezbollah's security quarter. Who will be able to get in there? Who will be able to reach him and carry out an operative operation there? Once we decided that he was a target, the matter of ability was no longer a factor.
