UNIFIL has released an official statement detailing five separate drone-related incidents between May 5 and May 12 involving suspected Hezbollah UAV activity near or inside UN peacekeeping compounds in southern Lebanon.
According to the report, on May 5 an armed fiber-optic-guided drone crashed into a UNIFIL structure near Al-Haniyah but failed to explode. On May 10, another Iranian-made drone crashed inside the UNIFIL headquarters compound in Naqoura, though it was reportedly unarmed.
The incidents escalated further on May 11, when three drones exploded near the UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura, in an area where IDF troops may have been present. On May 12, another drone exploded near the same headquarters, followed minutes later by an additional UAV that detonated inside the compound itself, causing structural damage to UNIFIL facilities.
UNIFIL stated that its assessment points toward Hezbollah being responsible for all of the launches, although the organization stopped short of making a definitive accusation.
