Israel is reportedly demanding that Lebanon meet new security conditions before any military withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
The IDF has reportedly taken control of one of Hezbollah’s largest underground tunnel complexes in southern Lebanon, described by Lebanese reports as a major strategic site only a few kilometers from Metula. The site, located in the Mlikh area, has become a central point in Israel’s pressure campaign against Hezbollah and the Lebanese state.
According to the report, the understanding between Israel and the US is that Iran will continue to arm Hezbollah unless Israel and the United States increase pressure on the Lebanese government. Israel is therefore expected to condition any withdrawal from southern Lebanon on the Lebanese Army taking genuine control of the area and preventing Hezbollah from rebuilding its military infrastructure there.
The report also cites assessments that Hezbollah has suffered dozens of casualties in recent Israeli strikes, including senior operatives in the southern command. The key question now is whether Lebanon can actually impose state authority in the south — or whether Hezbollah will continue to drag the country into danger.
