Former Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said in a July 29, 2025 interview on the Mazeej Podcast by Al-Arabiya Network (Saudi Arabia) that Hamas's October 7, 2023 invasion and massacres in southern Israel were a "courageous" and "unprecedented" operation that were an "important crossroad in the history of the Palestinian struggle," but that its ultimate result should also be inspected. 

He said that this "adventure" should have taken consequences into consideration, and he criticized Hamas for not having taken the citizens of Gaza into consideration, explaining that October 7 was "miscalculated." 

Later in the interview, he said that the PLO wants to reach an agreement with Hamas about the Palestinians' ultimate goals, and that the Palestinians should be united in peace and in war under the leadership of the sole representative of the Palestinian people, the PLO.
