Federal investigators are examining whether US nonprofit and activist groups coordinated with Cuban officials in a foreign influence campaign.
The Justice Department and Treasury Department are reportedly investigating a wide network of US nonprofits, activist organizations and political figures accused of coordinating messaging, lobbying, fundraising, delegations and political activity with officials from Cuba’s communist regime.
According to the report, Fox News Digital identified 145 groups with roughly $1 billion in combined annual revenue that have mobilized in support of Cuba and the Communist Party of Cuba.
The probe reportedly intensified after Attorney General Todd Blanche announced murder charges against Raúl Castro over the 1996 shootdown of two civilian aircraft flown by the exile group Brothers to the Rescue. Within minutes, pro-Cuba groups allegedly launched a rapid-response campaign defending Castro and attacking the indictment.
